By the 1950s and 1960s Eel Pie Island was once again a popular music venue,
although the “locomotive” bands had by now been replaced by the
likes of The Rolling Stones and Black Sabbath, among others. The island’s
most recent hotel building was destroyed in 1971 and replaced by houses.
